Job Description:
Zep recently purchased a division of Ecolab and needs to migrate/integrate data into their systems for use by sales force and executives in both the Sales and the Finance division. ZEP needs two Solution Architects that can design and develop a solution that migrate the needed data into Zep systems. This is being done because they can't physically move the servers from Ecolab – they can only extract data from the servers related to their business line. Ecolab has existing universes that will need to be brought into Zep systems for year-end reporting. On a daily basis, the Solution Architects will work with Ecolab business contacts to retrieve and restore data, then integrate it into the SAP environment at Zep. The biggest challenge is bringing in the data and keeping the integrity. In addition, the business has to tell the Architect team where the data is. So there will be complications on not only finding the data but retrieving it.

Business Object's Data Integrator is a data integration and ETL tool that was previously known as ActaWorks. Newer versions of the software include data quality features and are named SAP BODS (BusinessObjects Data Services). The Data Integrator product consists primarily of a Data Integrator Job Server and the Data Integrator Designer. It is commonly used for building data marts, ODS systems and data warehouses, etc.
Additional transformations can be performed by using the DI scripting language to use any of the already-provided data-handling functions to define inline complex transforms or building custom functions.
Data Integrator Designer stores the created jobs and projects in a Repository. However, Data Integrator Designer also facilitates team-based ETL development by including a Central Repository version control system. Although this version control system is not as robust as standalone VCSs, it does provide the basic check-in/check-out, get latest, version labeling and undo checkout functionality.
The DI Job Server executes, monitors and schedules jobs that have been created by using the Designer.
Work Environment: Small manufacturing environment.
Business Challenge:
Due to the merger ZEP needs to pull data for their sales and finance division. Each have a front end report that internal employees can perform queries.
EVP:
Architect will be aligned with a BA from Ecolab, but will also need to work directly with the business people from Ecolab to create the proper solution. This is a great opportunity to work on a project that has exciting challenges relative to the work. Client would like a consultant that can help them influence the decision making process. So a true consultant would enjoy this project.
