Job: Hadoop Administrator with MapR experience
Location: Littleton, CO.
Duration: 12+ month contract
Hadoop position that is 70% Administration and 30% development.
Must have manually administered, supported, and configured MapR (not Cloudera nor Hortonworks).
MapR is a Hadoop distro. Basically they rewrote the filesystem and much of what is automated in Cloudera is manual in MapR. Also MapR has filesystem quota's and volumes and a variety of other things above the usual Hadoop distro.
MapR Hadoop experience is what they need. Its quite a different animal than Cloudera
Manager has worked with both Cloudera and MapR and getting used to MapR is not so easy.
Below is what they will be doing:
Architect and own the on-going physical infrastructure and software layer
Own the architecture going forward and augmentation of innovation going forward
Their tasks will include:
Admin Tasks

Upgrade of MapR clusters
Adding users/groups/quota's
Installing additional tools like Spark
Setting up Flume in HA mode
Configuring Flume, Logstash and other tools to get data into Hadoop
Working with the network organization to open firewall requests
Deep knowledge of networking including layer 2 at a minimum, layer 3 very helpful
VMWare, KVM, Linux required
Programming Tasks
------------------------------------------
Creating reports with Splunk Hunk sourced from HDFS data
Working with MapRDB and TSDB for time series reporting
Configuring Hive schema
Beginner level Spark experience
Basic understanding of how to apply map/reduce to problems
The following is a wish list of skillsets that they would like.
1) MapR experience with 4.x
2) Completed MapR admin & developer courses
3) Experience with Flume, SILK/ELK stack
4) Basic Splunk experience, writing reports
5) Experience with installation/upgrade of MapR clusters
6) Experience with Impala, Hive, Hue, Hunk, Pig, Ozzie
7) Strong Linux skills (Centos, RHEL, Fedora)
8) Experience setting up MapR-FS and quota's
9) Experience writing Map Reduce algorithms (this is less important)
10) Predictive analytics experience a plus
11) Shell/Python scripting a plus
