Job Title: Dev Ops Consultant                        
Duration: 03 months contract  
              
Location: Richfield, MN.

Responsibilities/Deliverables that the resource will be responsible for :

Operating and maintaining web applications running on virtual machines
Infrastructure automation
Creating and maintaining tools to support software developers
Administrating and operating Atlassian tools, primarily Jira and Confluence
Developing metrics to track and monitor performance of internal infrastructure
Participating in an on-call rotation


Must have skills :   

Relevant experience in the following areas:
Experience deploying, maintaining, and operating applications (particularly JVM applications) deployed in cloud instances
Experience engineering solutions for scalability, reliability, and uptime
Linux system administration, including a high comfort level with RHEL and/or Ubuntu
Scripting or programming experience with Ruby, Python, Bash, or another object-oriented programming language
Infrastructure automation using tools such as Chef or Puppet
Network configuration
Continuous integration and deployment practices

 

Nice to have experience in the following areas:

Core OS
OpenStack
Jenkins
Operating and administrating Atlassian tools, such as Jira and Confluence
Using Cloud platforms, such as Rackspace, Openstack, EC2, Azure, or GCE
Experience with Agile practices, including automated testing

 

Required technologies:

Linux system administration
Network administration
Experience with at least one scripting or programming language (e.g. Ruby, Perl, or Python)

Required soft skills:

    Able to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools

    Comfort with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders.

    Able to multitask

    Able to work autonomously to deal with ambiguous requirements and solving complicated problems

 

Prescreening Questions (MUST BE INCLUDED):

 

    When you are developing a software solution, how do you decide when it is "good enough" ?

    When do you automate a task and when might it be wrong to automate a task ?  

    How would you go about making changes to production environments while ensuring quality and minimal downtime ?

    How would you approach the following situation in your job?  Every couple of days, a cloud management process becomes unresponsive preventing users from launching instances.  The solution  

    has been to ssh to the controller machine and manually restart the service.
