Senior Network Engineer – SDN WAN

Job Function: SD Network Design & Solution Engineering

Duration: Long term

Location: San Rafael, CA

Our client is looking for a Sr. Network Engineer on a contract basis who can quickly come up to speed on their existing environment, document future needs, survey the market for existing solutions, propose a SDN WAN solution and then be involved in a full POC build out and implementation that has the potential to significantly optimizes their network, reduce risk and yield savings.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

·         Understand and document the clients existing environment.

·         Work closely with infrastructure and software engineering teams and stakeholders to understand future road map and ensure solution is secure, highly available, and scalable to support the clients growing and dynamic web and cloud services  with high uptime in a global environment.

·         Assess best in class solutions available in the market through following best practices for technology selection, including both technical and commercial viability of solution and vendors.

·         Propose detailed solution for approval and actively engage with vendors for pricing and support. 

·         Take ownership of POC delivery, implementation, fine tuning and support.

·         Define and develop SDN WAN software framework, test/diagnostic suites, and processes to test the platform and ensure high quality software delivery

·         Create design, specification, and configuration standards

·         Participate in failure, load and performance tests to ensure solutions are production ready

·         Implement, administer, maintain and automate the POC infrastructure and cloud environment

·         Incident resolution and root cause analysis of critical outages

·         Implement solution to systematic failures

·         Provide strategic direction, coaching/mentoring to the Engineering teams

Requirements

·         8+ years delivering and managing global infrastructure solutions. Preference for experience in implementing a state of the art SDN WAN solution

·         Expert SDN knowledge, plus proficiencies in other infrastructure areas

·         Routing and switching (Cisco, Arista) expertise with knowledge in load balancers (F5, NetScaler), wireless, firewalls (Juniper, Cisco), VPN, VoIP/video, and QoS

·         Virtualization, Software Defined Networking, and scripting skills 

·         Solid understanding of application flow and ability to partner with software engineers and other infrastructure engineers

·         Ability to work with Open Source Tools

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills, and technical writing skills

·         Ability to lead and manage change

·         Advanced interpersonal skills to effectively promote ideas, collaborate across teams and influence stakeholders to reach decisions

·         A team player with passion, initiative, and flexibility

·         Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously

·         Superior problem solving abilities

·         Keen attention to detail

·         Self-motivated and directed

·         Ability to be diplomatic and dealing with pressure with ease

·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·         Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
