Job Description:
Preferred Qualifications to perform database upgrades to Oracle 11g as well as those that have experience with Oracle Golden Gate for upgrades & migrations.
Primary Accountabilities
Responsible for basic run the engine tasks, complex software installations, upgrades & license verifications, fault detection, escalation & repair, assisting developers with code roll-out & operational troubleshooting, performance metrics collection, analysis, & actions related to the analysis, planning complex upgrades, tech refreshes, migrations, &/or consolidations across the environment, defining opportunities to increase operational efficiency & acting on those opportunities, & overall system availability.
Coordinates the activities of several members of the technical staff to solve complex problems.
Compliance with all company security policies & procedures.
Expected Impact
Provides a stable & efficient system.
Ensures the availability, capacity & performance of the database.
Maintains database security as detailed in corporate security policies.
Promotes best practices by sharing lessons-learned & improvement suggestions with management, technology related focus groups, & peer groups.
Sought out by peers as subject matter expert to help with technical problems & to review new solutions.
Drives the database environment to continuous improvement.
Remotes a positive work environment.
Decision Making Independent problem solving; self-directed. Able to focus on several tasks simultaneously & still be able to take on last minute additions as necessary.
Demonstrates project prioritization skills.
Customer Contact
Is a source of counsel & expertise for database issues for both internal & external constituencies.
Interface with multiple leadership levels, including first-line technical & business managers through senior officers.
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
Understanding of the operating system on which the database is running, physical disk formats & layout, & their effects on database performance.
Understands the impact of physical table design on application performance & can modify designs based on this knowledge.
Understands monitoring & tuning & can make changes based on this knowledge, & how to design, implement & manage security policies within the database.
Detailed knowledge of the data dictionary, understanding of proper use of indexes, initialization parameters & their uses, internal stored procedures & product-specific scripts.
Ability to install current database products, patches & upgrades.
Experience in creating & debugging SQL query / stored procedures, triggers, index management, performance tuning & optimization / troubleshooting, replication implementation & management, & database capacity management.
Strong understanding of the business processes supported by systems within the scope of team responsibility.
Knowledge of database internals including differences in optimizers, profile tools, EXPLAIN PLAN, & system tables.
for Microsoft products, extensive experience with Enterprise Manager, T-SQL, SQL Agent, & Distributed Transaction Coordinator.
Ability to plan product installations across the entire environment.
Understanding of the special requirements of clustered requirements.
Four Year College Degree (or equivalent experience) with 6-10 years relevant experience.
