Description:
Sr. Linux Administrator will be working with a global team of individuals in supporting a very large Linux environment. Provide Tier 2 Operational support for UNIX systems. Provide technical analysis and design consulting support for major business applications. Managing project and task deliverable commitments, system changes and application rollouts / upgrades. The individual should have hands-on experience working within an enterprise wide datacenter environment with various infrastructure management products, including but not limited to:
Advanced Red Hat System Administration
Virtualization products - KVM, XEN
Heavy use of scripting and automation tools
Linux Clustering (Red Hat) and SAN usage
Enterprise backup agents (TSM, NetBackup, etc.)
Other server management products
Problem management
Project reporting
Customer communication
Rollout of applications and OS upgrades
Build and configuration of server hardware
Maintenance of the operating systems and hardware
Installation of configured server into a production server environment
Troubleshooting OS and hardware problems for local and remote servers.
Escalation Support
Vendor escalation.
The individual must be able lead the analysis into situations and problems to determine how to resolve problems and the root cause of these problems.
The individual will also be responsible for following change control procedures to plan/test/implement Infrastructure changes in coordination with business owners.
The individual will be expected to work with documentation to acquire the necessary know-how specific to supporting this Linux environment and related deliverables.
Requirements:
Experienced RedHat LINUX administrator with advanced knowledge of RedHat Clustering (KVM/XEN) and RedHat Enterprise Virtualization configuration, troubleshooting and management.
6 to 10 years of relevant Linux System Admin experience.
Day to day, hands on LINUX Operating System experience in a large enterprise (datacenter) environment.
Extensive knowledge in installation/configuration/support of Red Hat, RHN Satellite on HP Proliant and IBM x series systems.
Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools, installation, configuration, problem determination, system recovery and Linux security. Experience with metron / athene a plus.
Experience writing and debugging shell scripts in a standard UNIX shell (ksh, Bash are necessary and Perl is a plus. C programming would be a plus).
Advanced knowledge of UNIX Clustering in RedHat LINUX, virtualization (RHEV), package creation and LVM maintenance. Working knowledge of Fencing methods desired.
Virtualization Experience mandatory (KVM, XEN), VDI knowledge will be a plus.
Red Hat Certification (RHCE) is desired.
Excellent Communication Skill, convincing skill & client management (Both internal & External).
Ability to interview staff to capture existing processes and generate formal documentation.
Working Experience on ITIL process.
Experience with AIX administration will be an added advantage.
Exp. with large numbers of Oracle ASM LUNs served from an EMC Enterprise SAN.
Exp. with BIND/DNS knowledge and LDAP authentication.
Knowledge on Tivoli Directory Services a plus.
DR & Bare-Metal restores a plus.
Exp. Running YUM & RPM mandatory for OS patch management, experience building RPM packages desired
Maintenance of the operating systems and hardware
Exp. with Clustered Files Systems and Global File System (GFS2) desired.
Familiarity operating in a PCI environment a plus
Ability to review Security related errata and asses applicability to environment and engineer / execute deployment in a large environment.
Ability to test and certify new Server and Peripheral Hardware in a lab setting to be compatible with existing Landscape and/or plan for mitigation.
Ability to troubleshoot OS and Hardware issues and track from incident detection through Resolution (including Vendor escalations).
Off-shift and on-call support will be required
Any exposure to the following appliances would be a plus:
IBM Netezza (Data Warehouse Appliance)
IBM Webshpere Data Power SOA
BMC Cordiant (Web Application Performance Management)
Work Environment:
The primary work location is Frederick, MD. There will be times when support activities may involve travel to Bethesda or Gaithersburg. The Computing Center provides 24 X 7 technical support with on-call responsibilities.
At times, off shift work may be required.
