Position: SQL Server with Sybase - DBA

Location: Charlotte, NC

Duration: 6 Months plus

 

The position requires a hands-on database technologist with database administration and development experience with Sybase and SQL Server environments. Also required is advanced expertise in performance tuning activities. Good communications (written/verbal) are needed to work with various project teams. The candidate should also be a self-starter able to drive tasks to completion independently. DBA will be required to learn new skills ETL administration on the job (DataStage/AbInitio).

 

Primary responsibilities:

* Supporting the day to day development activities by working with the application development teams on database issues

* Participate in the production support 24x7

* Performance tuning/troubleshooting complex queries and server performance issues

* Run system performance tests in the High Performance Database Lab

* Recommend improvements in the reporting and batch processing code bases based on analysis of system snapshots

* Run explains on pre-release code and provide feedback for performance improvements

* Lead database code reviews

 

Skills Required

* 5-10 years experience in the database development lifecycle

* 5 years experience in design, development and support of large database applications.

* 3-5 years experience with SQL Server and Sybase running on a distributed platform.

* 3 years database programming including stored procedure and trigger development.

* Strong SQL skills including the ability to rewrite complex queries for performance improvements.

* Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.

* Ability to prioritize, multitask and work with onshore and offshore teams.

 

Skills Desired

* Sybase and SQL Server database administration

* UNIX and Windows operating environment

* UNIX shell scripting skills and Windows scripting are required

* Experience with Solaris / VERITAS cluster preferred is a plus

* Familiarity with an ETL product such as AbInitio or DataStage is a major plus

* Required: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience and 10 years of experience working with various database management systems in database design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration in a multiple platform environment.
