Storage Engineer / Architect

Location:  Princeton, NJ OR Redwood City, CA.  HOWEVER – client would be open to person sitting in Boston or NY City. 

Interview:  In-Person interview at whichever site they can work at NJ, NY, Boston OR Redwood City, CA

 

The duration is initially for 6 months (with possible extensions

We are looking for a highly skilled storage Engineer/Architect. Must be an expert with HP 3Par storage arrays and well versed in other vendors arrays as we are mixed array environments. Must have verifiable experience working in a 24x7x365 environment. On-Call and weekend availability is a must.

This is open due to storage footprint expanding and divvied up among multiple people on team and we would like for it to be just one position for one person so they can focus on all aspects. Supporting the team as a whole, not any one specific project or initiative.

Must haves:
Manager will look for proven experience in a fast-paced environment when reviewing resumes and speaking with candidates- this will be the key.
Expertise with the product - HP 3Par, teamwork, and get it done mentality.


Specifics of this role include the following:

1) standardize implementations and operational methods
2) manage capacity and performance
3) operationally allocate storage to requestors
4) provide budget requests and forecasts to management
5) optimize reuse and recovery of dormant storage
6) work with systems engineering, network engineering, project engineering, database engineering, windows engineering and the virtualization team to build appropriate service delivery methods and services for their use-cases
7) schedule and run regular meetings on a cross-functional basis to improve services
8)actively triage and run escalations and support requests with vendors to resolve service issues and failures
9) work with various internal automation experts to ensure appropriate automation exists to track inventory, firmware, capacity and outages
10) work off hours change controls as needed
11) 10% travel - if they are in Princeton/NYC going back and forth from time to time. If in Boston, they may have to go to Princeton once or twice a year for a meeting. Redwood would likely not have travel at all.
12) physical presence and hands-on experience within the datacenter environment
13) comfortable and experienced with a mission-critical environment and the associated on-call and irregular hours involved
14) able to communicate effectively in the English language and via electronic methods
