The BI Analyst's purpose is to apply such technical capabilities to challenges facing the company, collaborating with stakeholders across business units on how to leverage the use of data and the enabling BI platform.
Responsibilities:
BI SDLC Support
· Work as a liaison for BI initiatives between business users and IT team members, managing the collection of business requirements by working with internal clients to establish well defined specifications and communicate reporting priorities.
· Coordinate and lead business requirements sessions with stakeholders on new or larger priority initiatives.
· Translate user stories into business requirements and into easily understood solution design specifications: data flow models, data value maps, use/test cases, and technical specifications for reports, dashboards, or other analytical outputs developed by IT team members. May require application analysis/querying and data modeling design to collect and persist data in the company's centralized data warehouse.
· Recognize and map business benefits to the business requirements and user stories.
· Document key performance indicators, their related definitions and business rules.
· Use function point analysis methodology to estimate time and duration of BI projects; help prepare and manage project plans.
Data Analytics
· Develop reports to support data analysis needs of business users within the company, including both ad-hoc and pre-defined reports using data from the data warehouse and from extraneous data sources.
· Yield strong data mining, aggregation, and analysis skills, including statistical modeling and forecasting, employing expertise with predictive analytics software, such as SPSS.
· Serve as a go-to, expert resource adept in such statistical modeling/predictive analytics capabilities, sharing knowledge, techniques, and best practices to analysts throughout the company.
· Proactively identify and act upon opportunities ripe for statistical decision analysis, culling data, preparing models, and collaborating with department analysts accordingly. Such activity would reflect understanding of the company and its business objectives, take into account the company's strengths and weaknesses, and engage market research as necessary.
· Identify opportunities to improve the integrity of models and forecasts crafted by others, whether by employing a different method or introducing other variables (from internal or external data sources).
· Publish and push analytical findings via dashboards, scorecards, and reports through the Cognos 10 business intelligence platform.
· Create logical and innovative solutions vetted by data analysis to solve complex problems.
Requirements Qualifications
· Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related computational science, or Business, Finance, Information Systems or other quantitative/analytical area.
· 3-6 years or more experience working with business users and systems development areas in creating automated solutions to business problems with the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Platform (ideally v8 or 10).
· Experience working in a BI environment as an analyst or developer and have understanding of a BI technology stack (modeling, ETL, cube fabrication, report generation & publication/distribution).
· Proficiency in the use of Cognos tools, including but not limited to: Framework Manager and data modeling, Report Studio advanced report authoring, design and development of OLAP functionality (OLAP cube models), relational data sources.
· Proficiency with SQL, designing and creating SQL based frameworks.
· Exposure to SDLC spectrum (requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment) as part of development team or cross-functional project team, with responsibility for solution definition and design, data analysis, or report/dashboard fabrication.
· Expertise capturing business requirements and objectives, interfacing directly with business stakeholders and managers and possessing a functional orientation in understanding how BI development work translates to the end business user.
· Strong analytics (e.g., math, statistics, quantitative methods) background, manifested by data mining, aggregation, and analysis skills, including statistical modeling and forecasting. Expertise with predictive analytics software, such as SPSS.
· Experience publishing and pushing analytical findings via dashboards, scorecards, and reports through a Business Intelligence platform (ideally Cognos v8 or 10)
