Job Title: Architecture - Sr. Architect

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Duration: 6 months

Position Summary: Client is looking for a Sr. Data Architect to contribute to the development and evolution of an Analytics solution to provide metrics related to Client's point of interest content management system. This very hands-on individual will work as part of one or more Agile teams comprised of data architects, product owners, testers, and business analysts and others to design and build new data warehouse data models, develop and maintain core documentation and metadata, and work closely with ETL developers and reports creators to meet new and/or enhanced customer requirements. This team is charged with growing the system beyond the bounds of traditional data warehousing by leveraging the power of an Hadoop cluster to compute analytic metrics and by identifying reporting tools that can read and present data directly from the Hadoop cluster. 

Responsibilities:

• Quickly develop prototypes and proof of concept solutions.

• Follow Client Software Development processes.

• Write production-ready database scripts using SQL and ksh to implement model changes.

• Document data models in ERD notation using data modeling tools such as Toad Data Modeler, ERwin, or Rational Data Architect.

• Write and design ETL processes using SQL and ksh scripts; perform adequate unit and performance tests to verify the correctness and scalability of the ETL job(s).

• Write map reduce jobs in order to extract data from one or more Hbase source databases.

• Create and maintain high-quality, accurate, and timely documentation in the form of updated data models, ETL documentation, and other project documents / wiki pages as needed.  

• Document all developed code.

• Investigate open source technologies such as Hbase and Pentaho to create a cost-effective and scalable data platform.

• Participate in system support and monitoring for Development, Test, and Production environments; includes the ability to respond, in a timely manner, to emergency incidents which may occur outside of regular business hours.

• Participate in code, design, architectural and configuration reviews, offering and accepting guidance as necessary. 

• Provide periodic status to Project Manager, including accomplishments, issues and risks.

Position Requirements:

• BS degree in Computer Science or related field.

• Minimum 5 years of experience.

• Solid experience with either Oracle or Postgres (Postgres preferred). 

• Strong working knowledge of SQL and ksh.

• Able to engage quickly, work independently, and respond positively to change in a dynamic environment.

• Self starter with energetic attitude.

• Solid communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Experience working as a member of an Agile team is a plus.

• Experience working with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition is a plus.
