Description
The Weblogic Administrator is a primary resource in supporting core DIRECTV business applications. This individual must possess advanced troubleshooting skills and detailed knowledge of java web applications and containers, as well as, the ability to learn new technologies in a fast paced environment. The team provides 24/7 support for DIRECTV's production environment as well as release management and support for functional and performance testing. These applications range from custom Java applications running in Oracle Weblogic and Apache Tomcat to off the shelf applications from various leading industry vendors. This position works with Development, Testing, Incident and Problem Management groups to implement new applications in production, install new releases of existing applications and troubleshoot issues across our Production & Non-Production environments. These applications support DIRECTV's 18 million residential customers, as well as, our national network of retailers and installers.
Responsibilities:
- Work in a team to categorize, prioritize and resolve software application performance and stability issues with rotating on call responsibility as a 3rd Tier escalation point
- Coordinate with data center operations, system & network administrators, test and development groups to ensure 99.99% availability on mission critical IT applications for both internal users and DIRECTV customers
- Participate in Project Team meeting sessions and provide task level detail feedback to the Project Manager or Project Lead
- Proactively monitor the performance and availability of key middleware components in production and test environments
- Report to management on the status of incident resolution for critical production issues
- Track and ensure that all products are properly patched and maintained
- Open and follow up on vendor product support tickets and enhancement requests
Qualifications
BS in Computer Science, related degree, or strong relevant and comparable experience
- 4+ years technical operations experience within a 24x7 environment (Production) with complex, multi-tiered, highly scalable and highly available clustered systems
- 4+ years of experience configuring/debugging J2EE web application servers/containers such as; WebLogic (8.x,9.x,10.x), Apache (Tomcat), JBoss (Hibernate),
- 4+ years of experience with IIS 5/6/7 and Apache Web Servers. Experience with Weblogic ISAPI plugin a plus.
- Significant troubleshooting and performance tuning skills/experience (TCP/IP, DNS, level 4 to level 7, Load balancing); a strong knack for understanding IP network behavior and failure
- Custom network and application monitoring/instrumentation experience (Perl, PHP) as well as familiarity with Open Source and OTS tools (HPOV, Nagios, Unicenter, OpenView, Foglight)
- Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, written and verbal communication skills
- Proven experience with administrating 24/7 business critical applications
Ideal Qualifications:
- Computer Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering majors
- Installation, tuning and administration of Oracle (BEA) Weblogic (8.x,9.x,10.x)
- An insatiable curiosity about high transaction, highly available systems & middleware architecture & performance
