Position Summary:
The Data Warehouse Technician (DWT) provides expert support for the design, development and maintenance of a data warehouse for the client. Through the creation and maintenance of the data warehouse, the DWT plays a key role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of data stored by the client and used to make decisions that may affect agency-wide policy and programming decisions. In addition, the DWT helps facilitate data-driven decisionmaking and accountability by making a wide variety of data available that comes from single, clearly-defined sources and is stored in such a way as to facilitate secure data access and usage.
Position Responsibilities
- Analyzes source systems to determine data availability and data reliability and identifies any limitations that may exist in meeting reporting requirements due to source data; creates data models to meet reporting needs based on reporting requirements and source data analysis. (50%)
- Designs ETL (Extract Transfer Load) logic to move data from source systems to data warehouse environment. Implements physical ETL code using available tool set. (20%)
- Confers with user community, business analysts, and other IT staff to conduct fact-finding and analysis to define reporting requirements for data marts. (10%)
- Works with business analysts and report writers to help design/create/test meaningful reports and dashboards. (10%)
- Monitors data warehouse system to ensure proper execution and performance. (5%)
- Performs related duties as required. (5%)
Job Requirements
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field
- Expert knowledge of Data Warehousing methodologies and concepts, including and not limited to: star schemas, snowflakes, ETL processes, dimensional modeling and reporting tools
- At least three years of experience with and extensive knowledge of dimensional modeling, cube design and development using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
- At least five years of experience with DTS / SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Experience with Multidimensional Expression (MDX) queries and Data Mining Expression (DMX) queries for analysis services
- At least three years of experience with and extensive knowledge of OLAP and Reporting Services/MS Excel combination
- At least three years of experience with and extensive knowledge of data warehouse development tools, especially Microsoft tools (Data analysis tools, ETL tools, etc.).
- Extensive knowledge of policies, standards, procedures, and techniques used for data warehouse development.
- Ability to perform problem solving and analytical analysis.
- Competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of systems analysis and programming activities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently
