Job Title           Unix System Administrator
 
Location: Mountain View CA(locals)
Duration: 12 months

Duties              Solid intermediate/senior Unix Administrator, responsible for maintenance, deployment, and troubleshooting of a heterogeneous network of servers. Duties will include: Deployment of bare-metal servers via predetermined installation methodologies prescribed by senior technical staff. Performance tuning and assessment of performance issues. Patch/revision management at the OS software level. Application software deployment, patching, and maintenance. Automation of tasks and functions per guidelines prescribed by senior technical staff. Inventory management at the OS/hardware/patch level. Standards compliance/enforcement of OS/software/server/process standards prescribed by senior technical staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

-        Be point of contact for Production, Development and Engineering customers, developing tactical plans in line with project initiatives and programs.  Provide updates and status to management and stakeholders on project efforts.

-        Perform System / Network Administration activities on Linux & Solaris systems and VMware Virtual environment.

-        Automate various System Administration activities.

-        Develop various system administration / monitoring tools for day to day use and handover to operation team with proper documentation and training.

-        Install, configure, and perform upgrades on the following system management tools: Splunk, Foglight, R-Syslog, Sendmail, Puppet and Nagios

-        Should be security conscious in all the system administration, development and tools configuration/management activities.

-        Provision new systems and troubleshooting on the following OS platforms: CentOS, Redhat Linux, Solaris, AIX, VMWare, and Windows.

-        Participate in “proof of concept” programs, implementing new technologies and tools.

-        Complete and submit weekly report to Management. Should track and document all tasks, resolution provided for issues and project/work status and provide to management.

-        Participate in 'on-call' duties outside of normal business hours as well as participate in bi-weekly maintenance windows as required.

-        Perform support and maintenance activities of Production, QA and Development systems.  Manage and document all work through appropriate work management and change control systems.

-        Able to support systems handling credit card data, PCI Compliance systems, Systems supporting DoD and Systems with confidential and proprietary information such as source code.

Skills              Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Must be a strong and effective team player.Willingness/ability to travel to US. Ability to accept direction from senior technical staff. 3+ years practical hands-on Unix administration (Solaris 8, 9 and/or Redhat Linux preferred). Strong understanding of networking services and interconnectivity. Understanding/proficiency in software package management and deployment methodologies. Ability to adhere to process. Willingness to accept follow-the-sun on-call requirements. Flexible schedule to accomodate meetings/handovers/escalations. Strong understanding of OS provisioning/deployment. Strong understanding of patch and revision management. Understanding of security concepts. Understanding of network design: subnets, zones, firewalls, et al. Strong scripting skills (bourne, perl, expect, tcl, et al).  Familiarity with 3-tier application architecture. Familiarity with Oracle database software, and associated server requirements."n Familiarity with IT/IS/IR Operations Service Delivery models: Availability, Business Continuity. Strong grounding/background in software deployment cycles and their inherent scope and requirements (Dev -> Q/A -> Staging -> Production).Familiarity with network load balancing a plus.

Requirements:

-        5  to 7 years experience as sysadmin (VMware/System/Network Administration).

-        5 to 7 Years experience in Linux is a must.

-        1 to 3 Years experience in Puppet, Splunk, Foglight and Nagios is a must.

-        1 to 3 Years experience in VMWare virtualization techniques is a must.

-        In depth knowledge of System/OS level TCP/IP Networking is a must.

-        Experience in Splunk, Sendmail (Milters), Puppet will be added plus.

-        Solid experience in system & network administration of  RHEL Linux & VMware ESX 3i and 4.

-        Should put in security as a priority in all the administration and tools management.

-        Should be able to work independently and lead/complete project as per guidelines.

-        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as oral and written skills.

-        Participate in off-hours, weekends and holidays on-call support as required.

-        Upto 25% of US and International travel.
