Job Description:

Education BS Degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering (no

exceptions)

3-7 years experience in process engineering and project management in industry is required.

Preferred – Chemical Engineer Global Travel Requirements 20 to 30%

Project Leadership – previous execution of small to large scale projects, possibly including initiatives with global reach, technology, processes, cross-functional teams and partner team members.

Partner Relationships – experience with cross-functional teams that include third party expertise.

Aptitude to build strategic and execution-focused plans and alliances with partner leadership.

Management of projects, including, but not limited to, scope, schedule, cost, risk, resource, and change management.

Strong Communications – effective planning and execution of communications for stakeholders, both written and verbal.

Global Business Acumen – experience with business operations; aptitude / desire to grow in the knowledge of the Owens Corning business; conveyance of business acumen to project team members.

The company has sales of $5 billion and employs approximately 20,000 people worldwide and is seeking a highly motivated individual for employment within its strategic Science & Technology Center in Granville, Ohio. Employment will be within a matrix organization located within a campus-like setting, uniquely situated to provide individual diversity and the choice of either a rural or an urban lifestyle.

This person will be part of a global "Strategic Environmental Technology Center of Excellence" platform team with a focus on all the company's capital programs dealing with:

Energy Reduction

Zero environmental non-conformities

Leading edge materials Reuse & Recycle

Air/Water/Industrial Hygiene Pollution Elimination & Control

Chemical and Biological industrial wastewater treatment

Landfill design/site remediation

Elimination of Air Toxics

Process Modeling for Sustainability (Environmental Footprint Reduction)

Product Stewardship, Life Cycle Analysis, Hazard & Operability Evaluations

Close coordination between R&D, Engineering & Engineering's Partners, all OC Business Unit(s), the Plants, Environmental/Health/Safety, Sourcing and Regulatory Law is required. The incumbent will contribute as a Manufacturing Technology's representative to develop and provide management of both small and large capital projects. The candidate will be expected to establish "fitness for use" criteria and prepare "up-front" project definitions. The ability to then transfer and co-ordinate packages with external engineering alliances for execution is critical. The incumbent may also provide design & project management for R&D related pilot programs. The focus would be on distilling the impact of R&D programs on the Company's future capital plans by communicating costs, timing, and technical "potential for success" as future "scaled-up" programs. An understanding what vendor equipment or engineered systems are readily available, what our competition is doing, and what the costs of these initiatives will be required. The incumbent will work with customers to define their needs, generate & analyze options, and initiate and hand-off projects. All projects must be managed within safety, cost, schedule, and technical guidelines.

The candidate is expected to be an equipment & technology expert first with major project experience and a regulatory/environmental studies background is considered secondary. The ability to conceptualize, plan, and organize multiple assignments is a must. The incumbent will be expected to understand OC varied processes and equipment, have proficient technical/project management skills, and be able to transfer past experiences to the job. The ability to work in a matrix environment is a must, as well as the ability to lead inside & outside engineers and technologists with ability to "step- back" from the details through leadership and effective use of external resources. Cross training in multiple business units, multiple technical platforms, and work within the international arena will occur as part of everyday assignments. Project activity will be on projects ranging from $100K-$90MM. A willingness to travel/work internationally and sensitivity towards diverse cultures is required. The successful candidate is one who is a knowledgeable risk taker, excellent listener & communicator, a delegator, with technical breadth & depth and who is flexible and persuasive.
