Job Title: Big Data Developer, VIPER Operations
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Duration: 6+ Month
VIPER (Video IP Engineering & Research) is a fast-moving team transforming video streaming in the USA and internationally. We architect, develop, operate, and measure CloudTV for ComcastNBCU.
We need a Big Data Developerto bring computer science expertise to our data analytics pipeline.In this role, your code and scripts will help us ingest and structure a large and diverse data set to facilitate automated analytics and reporting. Your success will create data science opportunities to develop machine learning and projection modeling capabilities for our CloudTV platform.
Must-Haves include database scripting (MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle), data pipeline tool skills(Python, Spark, Pentaho/PDI), and GIT code distribution experience. You also have experience in distributed computingto help us manage and leverage resources across multiple datacenters, tools, and databases (OpenStack, AWS, MySQL, Oracle, Cassandra).
To succeed you will collaborate closely with business analysts, data analysts, product owners, and software engineers in an Agile DevOps environment to clarify requirements and deliver quality. Along the way, you'll be asked to help illustrate and communicate opportunities and gaps to stakeholders.
Must Haves:
• Must Have: strong database scripting (MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle) and data pipeline skills (Python, Spark, Pentaho/PDI)to ingest andtransform data for analytics & machine learning.
• GIT experience for code and version control management by a distributed team of Devs
• 5-to-8 years of Python/Scala experience (or similar) in Spark integration with Kafka& big data tech
• Avro&JSONdata format experience. (Alternate: Parquet, ORC)
• Write and comprehend complex MySQL/SQL scripts for analysis and data migration
• Hands-on OpenStack, AWS cloud services and distributed compute experience, e.g. EC2, S3, etc
• Real-time streaming data processing skills & experience, e.g. choosing streaming vs. batch
• Data stewardship: aggregation frequency, retention, archive, deletion, and recovery policy
• Support what you develop: validate, A/B & regression test, troubleshoot, deploy, bug fix.
• Command line utilities and server infrastructure maintenance required
• BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar (data structure, algorithms, etc)
• Adept at working in fast-paced and rapidly changing environments
• Highly detail-oriented analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
Nice To Haves:
• BONUS -- Practical experience applying data science methodologies: statistical modeling (correlation analysis, regression, decision trees), ANOVA, clustering techniques (Python, R, etc.)
• Use data science to identify and execute on new BI and analytics opportunities in DevOps
• Deep learning librariesexperience using Python, R, Keras, Tensorflow or related
• Machine learningdevelopment for anomaly detection and predictive modeling
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related field
• Nice-to-Have: NoSQL familiarity (Cassandra, MongoDB)
