Senior Cognos Developer for assignment with our client in Chicago, IL...........
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:
Go-to expert for everything regarding Cognos technology; able to lead Cognos Developers.
Responsible for architecting Cognos solutions and designing Cognos Frameworks.
Provides Cognos expertise to Cognos developers supporting multiple business applications.
Understand complex business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Develops standards, procedures, and best practices for Cognos usage.
Stays abreast of new Cognos offerings and demonstrates a deep understanding of Cognos.
Work with other team members to meet support and project milestones, manage client satisfaction, and mentor other team members.
Work closely with analysts and business users to define intuitive interfaces and data structures that support the users' information needs.
Provides overall technical guidance & training on the usage of Cognos tools & related SW.
Participate in Cognos software upgrade impact analysis, upgrade planning & implementation.
Trouble-shoot performance and query build issues and errors as required.
Responsible for creating deployment documentation. Including Cognos installation & deployment guides and detailed deployment instructions. Also, assist Operations with Cognos deployment and production troubleshooting.
Hands-on development using Cognos to develop and optimize reports, including tuning queries in an Oracle/ DB2 environment and Design new or additional data movements between transactional and reporting databases and within reporting databases, using specs modeled on user needs.
Specific Required Knowledge/Skills:
Master's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 7 years of IT work experience focused in Cognos development.
Proficient with accessing data in Oracle 10, and 11, TOAD, and implementing data solutions utilizing SQL; PL/SQL; DB Visualizer for DB2 Z/OS; Sql Server Management Studio for SQL Server 2005.
Must have strong SQL writing and programming skills, preferably in Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server environment. Must have some programming skills in PL/SQL and ETL.
Support current ETL processes and provide troubleshooting of those processes.
Knowledge of data warehouse architectures, concepts and technologies a big plus.
Strong Analysis and design of quality technical Cognos, ETL and DB solutions.
Strong experience in Cognos 8 Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query Studio, Event Studio (Cognos 8.4 experience preferred).
Must have demonstrated experience in the creation of complex data models using framework manager, complex reports, charts, bursting, scheduling and dashboard style solutions using Cognos 8 Series.
Must Have Experience Integrating COGNOS With One Or More Of The Following:
Oracle, ETL, Websphere, Java w/ various frameworks and libraries.
Ability to write and modify UNIX shell scripts and windows batch scripts.
Must have experience with Cognos installation/deployment procedures.
Experience w/Rational Unified Process Methodology & Rational Tools (ClearCase, ClearQuest, RequisitePro, Rational Rose).
Strong Initiative with good verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience working within a team environment.
Proven ability to work w/ minimal supervision & adhere to schedules.
Highly desirable for candidate to have prior experience with health care Inter-plan systems: NRS, Blue Guest, BlueServ, Blue2, Blue Exchange, PDR, LDLA, or BDC.
Highly desirable to have Familiarity with health care development processes and methodologies.Thanks & Regards,
