Position : SQL Server SSAS DBA

Location : NYC, NY

Duration : 6 – 12 Months
Rate : $50/hr all incl Max

 

Description

The SQL Server DBA is responsible for Administration/Maintenance of SQL Server Analysis Services 2008/2012 environment and mission-critical (24x7) SQL Server Databases. She/he is also involves designing ETL solutions, tuning existing ETL/ODS design, Performance Tuning and Query Optimization. The Administrator analyzes and resolves problems related to data, software, servers, usage etc.  He/she also installs and maintains the software including upgrades and patches, monitors performance of OLAP/OLTP environment, maintains system security and makes recommendations for planning and budgeting

Essential Skills:

·         This position requires a Bachelor’s degree

·         7+ years of Experience in Production Database Administration in SQL Server 2005, 2008 and 2012 and extensive experience in architecting/administering data warehouse (Analysis Services) and ETL solutions

·         Proven experience with SQL Server Performance tuning and Query Optimization

·         Working knowledge in SQL Server Cluster installation and configuration

·         Experience  in third party backup and monitoring tools

·         Experience configuring and maintain Report Manager and Report Server for SSRS.

·         Experience developing and Troubleshooting reports using SSRS.

·         In-depth knowledge of Microsoft BI technology stack such as SSIS & SSAS,  Industry best practices for ETL and data warehousing concepts

·         Experience performing BI releases within a complex environment which includes SSAS & SSIS.

·         Working experience in Data Warehouse applications

·         Experience in Database and BI systems migration from Microsoft SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012.

·         Strong attention to detail and organization skills

·         PowerShell scripting

 

Additional Skills Desired:

·         Data modeling

·         Logical Database Design

·         Certification in SQL Server and OLAP Administration/Development

·         Basic knowledge of Oracle database is a plus.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Administering of SQL and Analysis Service databases which includes installation, configuration and applying patches.

·         Ensure that complete and accurate backups of the SQL infrastructure happen on a regular schedule.  Additional, provide industry standards for different backup methodologies.

·         Maintain a change management log for the production environment.  

·         Participate in DR planning and conduct the DR Testing

·         Performance tuning of SQL Server databases interfaced with multiple applications

·         Work to ensure that associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases; work to ensure high resilience and do performance tuning.

·         Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.

·         Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.

·         Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving.

·         Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the database environment including rollout and upgrades.

·         Closely working with Application team with respect to architecting BI Solutions.

·         Work closely with development team to design the Data Warehouse and ETL solutions.

·          Performs problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventive techniques.

·         Ensure standardization of SQL coding practices and adherence to coding standards, change control, SQL best practices.

·         Provides technical consulting in identifying, implementing and supporting new SQL Server database function.

·         Plan for migration to future versions of any relevant products in the technology stack  

·         Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.

·         Ability to relate to non-technical users in user-friendly language.  

·         Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives or activities, and effectively make judgments in prioritizing and time allocation in a high-pressure environment.  

·         Ability to deal with changes and adapt to a changing environment.  

·         Must demonstrate the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the firms internal and personnel affairs.  

·         Ability to work well with others, harness different skills and experience, and build a strong sense of team spirit.
