Location : Miami

Rate : $42/Hr

 

The SQL Server DBA has the ability to perform database design, administration, analysis and troubleshooting for SQL Server Databases. These tasks will be performed according to Systems Design Methodology (SDM) standards.  This individual is part of a team working on efforts that can range from small, short-term maintenance/enhancement efforts to large, long-term projects and will consult with both business users and Information System team members on operating procedures and project objectives.  The efforts can follow either the waterfall or agile methodologies. The SQL Server DBA is also expected to perform third level support in order to resolve reported production problems: These may include technical tasks or coordination of efforts between business groups and IT departments.  

 

A SQL Server DBA has the ability to realize moderately complex logical design specifications into a physical data model or review existing data models of moderate complexity and provide constructive feedback.  He or she should be able to utilize the available database management tools for schema changes, object scripting/deployments, performance tuning, ETL process development and setting up database maintenance and backup/recovery processes.  This position requires thorough knowledge of commonly used database design and administration concepts, best practices, methodologies and procedures. This person works closely with other Applications Development staff and business users to translate the business requirements into design deliverables. The SQL Server DBA completes project deliverables either independently or under the supervision of more senior staff: These deliverables will follow the established CCL SDM.

 

The requirements for this position are a minimum of three or more years of experience as a SQL Server DBA. Effective oral and written communication, a customer-service orientation, accepting guidance, and following direction are all paramount to the success of a SQL Server DBA.  An individual in this position possesses a sense of urgency and meets agreed upon deadlines, as well as the ability to perform other assigned duties. This individual should meet deadlines, resolve issues, accept guidance and escalate critical issues that may affect project deliverables. Experience working in an environment with an established system development life cycle (SDLC) methodology is preferred. SQL Server MCDBA Certification is preferred but not required. This position requires a bachelors' degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering, or an appropriate equivalent.

 

The required technical skills include a good working knowledge of the appropriate tools for SQL Server (2005/2008/2008 R2) database administration, Integration, and BI automation (SSMS, SSIS, SSRS), design tools (ErWin /Visio Pro/Visual Studio etc.), T-SQL & Stored Procedures, the Windows Server operating systems (2003/2008/2008 R2) and related scripting tools (PowerShell). The ability to understand the components of a database schema and other appropriate database concepts like normalization, referential integrity, etc. is expected. This person can do performance analysis/tuning and understands SQL Server execution plans and the interaction of SQL Server with the Windows Server (2003/2008/2008 R2) operating system. The SQL Server DBA can use various monitoring tools to capture performance information and perform the necessary analysis,  provide feedback, and resolve performance issues.
