Data Network Engineer

Make solution suggestion and recommendations for improving data network operations at Client locations. Assist with defining process and procedures data network activities and responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of more complex telecommunications outages, such as hardware malfunction, configuration errors, telecommunications circuit or service outages.

· Provides input and makes system design recommendations to senior IT management and architects.

· Perform complex configuration changes, end user or equipment moves or additions.

· Continuously monitor and audit the data network environment to ensure compliance with data network standards and avoidance of potential network issues. This includes local area network data and wide area network data circuits.

· Plan and coordinate the purchase, installation and implementation of data hardware, software, and services according to department standards and procedures.

· Analyze, setup, monitor, and audit required measures to ensure telecommunications network performance and security.

· Other duties as required. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive inventory of all duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.

 

Education

· Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two years related experience and/or training.

· Eight years as a data network specialist in a medium to large size enterprise network; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

· Six years plus years as a high level data network engineer supporting large network and enterprise wide environments; or equivalent education and experience.

· Cisco certification preferred.

 

Skills

· Ability to write reports business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

· Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

· Working knowledge with TCP/IP and routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Wireless networking, 802.1x, Radius, TACACS.

· Experience with Cisco works, NetQOS, and Network monitoring solutions such as CA, and EHealth a plus.

· Ability to configure and support Cisco routers and switches in an enterprise environment supporting VOIP technologies

· Experience with documenting as built solutions using Visio and similar products.

· Must possess good interpersonal and communications skills
