Job Title: Linux System Engineer
Location: Houston, TX
Duration: 3-12+ Months Contact
Job Description: This position requires comprehensive knowledge of Linux operating systems. This person will join a team with the specific goal of providing technical research, design, troubleshoot and configure Linux servers, desktops, Linux clusters for a major Oil and Gas company on a "global" scale.
This is a system engineering position, NOT a system administration or support position. The goal of this role is to apply cutting edge technology concepts as it relates to Linux Systems in a large scale environment.
Required Skills:
- 3+ years' experience in systems support/administration in a large environment
- Strong Linux OS experience (3+ years in depth real world experience)
- Shell scripting experience. Experience of manipulating desired tasks and outcomes via custom (bash, csh, ksh, etc) scripts.
- Proven track record of Linux server/desktop builds, support and deployment.
- Creation of custom Linux builds.
- Knowledge of the Linux Boot/Build process (E.g. understanding of Anaconda)
- Experience in supporting, administering, and deploying Windows servers/desktops
- Source code management experience.
- Excellent communication skills (Verbal and Written)
- Strong team and interpersonal skills
Experience with the following is also preferred:
- Linux compute clusters, with experience in job schedulers such as: SGE, LSF, PBS, etc.
- Proven track record of large compute cluster builds, support and deployment
- Skills in deploying, supporting, and configuring high performance mass storage devices (NAS, SAN, iSCSI, etc.)
- Oil & Gas experience at major or super major company
- Ability to write and present design documents
