Position :  Sr. System and Network Engineer

Area: Palo Alto, CA

Duration : Long Term ( More than 1 year)

 

Job Description:

The position is on a tier-2 break/fix team, and are the "first responders" for Microsoft's global network. Consequently, although depth in certain subjects is important, for this position it is perhaps equally important to have a broad understanding spanning several networking disciplines.  Due to the dynamic network environment, the ability to absorb and apply new concepts is critical.

The ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience supporting enterprise IP networks, a background emphasizing TCP/IP analysis and packet-forwarding, and excellent communication skills.

This position also requires solid unix and windows systems experience

Requirements for System Engineering:

·         Monitoring tools experience (Nagios, Cacti, Cricket, etc)

·         Automation experience using UNIX scripting (perl, shell, tcl/expect preferred)

·         Mysql DB experience, basic troubleshooting, replication

·         revision control systems (subversion/svn preferred)

·         Automated OS Build/install experience

·         Experience with backups

·         Splunk implementation and customization

·         automation with rancid

Requirements for Networking skillset

·         Ability to solve problems

·         Experience administering and troubleshooting F5, Cisco, and Citrix load-balancers

·         Experience with Cisco, Juniper, and Foundry routers, and a wide variety of switches.

·         Solid understanding of Layer2 and Layer3 traffic forwarding

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Excellent communication skills

·         MPLS, L3VPNs and VRFs

·         BGP, OSPF

·         STP, HSRP, CDP, STP

·         Ability to re-engineer on-the-fly to resolve complex problems

·         Ability to take the lead role in a complex troubleshooting scenario, partner with all participants, and bring it to a successful resolution

Pluses

·         CCNP/JNCIS or equivalent

·         Unix/Linux experience

·         IPSEC VPN experience

·         5-8  years of experience

·         Ability to debug protocol issues

·         Ability to re-engineer on-the-fly to resolve complex problems

·         Demonstrated ability to take the lead role in a complex troubleshoot, partner with all participants, and bring it to a successful resolution
