Duration: 3 months with a strong potential of extension beyond.
Rate: $50/hr.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The platform engineer will build Windows based server images for third party application integration with our products. The candidate is expected to have a sound understanding of Windows Server 2003 and 2008, including installation, configuration and image delivery into manufacturing processes. This person will be responsible for reviewing server requirements and creating image build procedures. The position requires excellent written and oral communication skills. The position interacts with Product Management, third party application providers and all Engineering development teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review server requirements for various applications.
Install, configure and harden Windows 2003/2008 based servers from product / third party requirements.
Install, configure and harden third party applications.
Document image build procedures detailing all components and configuration settings.
Interact with Project/Product Management, third party application providers and other engineering teams as appropriate.
Work with Quality Engineering to validate the correct implementation of systems and applications.
Write scripts and configuration to support platform image build and deployment.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Required:
At least 5 years experience working as a Windows platform engineer / Server Administrator.
Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2003 and 2008 32 and 64 bit, including installation,
configuration, administration, and well known/best security practices.
Experience with imaging software and the delivery into manufacturing environments.
Demonstrated ability to produce server specifications and build procedures with minimal supervision.
Ability to attend cross functional meetings, providing technical information and answering technical questions regarding platform specifications.
Script language programming on Windows operating systems such as PowerShell,
VBS, and WMI.
Excellent communication skills (including presentation, verbal, and writing).
Demonstrated ability to work with other teams to resolve problems.
Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and require minimal supervision.
Desired:
Experience with MS SQL 2005 and 2008 installation and administration.
Working knowledge of database replication.
Experience migrating server applications to newer versions of Operating Systems.
Working knowledge of packaging software such as InstallShield or MSI.
Experience with networking, ports and protocols, firewalls and
network security.
Knowledge and experience with virtualization.
Experience configuring HA environments.
Experience with Linux installation, configuration and deployment.
Experience in kick-start unattended installation
Scripting languages: Shell Bash & Perl
Knowledge of standard Linux Network services, configuration, hardening
Knowledge of RPM packaging
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is required.
Microsoft MCSE and/or minimum of 5 years Microsoft Server based experience.
