Database Administrator Oracle DBA
Location: Emeryville, CA.
Position type: contract 3 month contract
Skills: Oracle DBA, some SQL Server DBA, Perl and shell programming, UNIX as a development and operational platform, SQL
Description
Within the team-oriented environment of Database Operations, you will help maintain production (24x7x365), development, and quality control databases, primarily on Oracle -- though we are expanding into other RDBMS technologies such as SQL Server. As a DBA in the company, you will work closely with database engineers and system administrators to manage the world's largest Media Database as well as a sizable Data Warehouse. You must be able to communicate effectively and help other DBAs and database engineers to identify and solve database related issues. You will be required to carry a pager and will be expected to respond to critical pages in a timely fashion (including nights and weekends).
Other responsibilities include:
1. DBA on-call, plus pager: ensure maximum uptime of production databases
2. Backup and recovery: assist Senior DBA creating and testing backup strategies
3. User/security management: manage user access to database, schema and data
4. Application troubleshooting: identify and help resolve database resource issues including performance tuning and application errors
5. Change management: manage DDL and PL/SQL changes into production databases
6. Storage management: assist Senior DBA to manage database storage allocation and re-allocation
7. Development/QC support
8. Aid database engineers to buildup/refresh Development/QC databases
9. Aid database engineers to utilize the database resources (SQL performance, storage) efficiently
The successful candidate will have a solid educational foundation, good communication skills, strong attention to detail and follow-up, the ability to take direction well, plus a strong desire to work in the exciting field of digital music technology.
Requirements:
DBA experience with Oracle or SQL Server
Experience with UNIX as a development and operational platform
Experience with Perl and shell programming
Experience with SQL
Good trouble shooting skills, Good communication skills, Team player, Self motivated, works independently.
Pluses:
Domain expertise in Music and/or Movies
Experience as a UNIX Administrator
Knowledge of multi-byte character sets, like UTF-8, Shift JIS, and Big5
Education: BA/BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Management Information Systems, or equivalent
