Hadoop Administrator is responsible for the enterprise-wide administration of the Hadoop infrastructure as it relates to a Big Data Ecosystem. Other duties involve backup, recovery and maintenance. Hadoop administration requires good knowledge of hardware systems, Linux OS, and excellent understanding of Hadoop architecture, and tools within the Hadoop ecosystem such as Hive, SQOOP, Spark, Flume, PIG, Map/Reduce, HBase.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

 

Responsible for implementation and ongoing administration of Hadoop infrastructure and Cluster maintenance including creation and removal of cluster nodes;

 

Responsible for setting up Hive structures, helping users troubleshoot issues with Hive/Impala/Spark/Sqoop, and migrating the structures between environments

 

Monitor Hadoop cluster job performance, end-to-end performance tuning of Hadoop clusters and Hadoop Map/Reduce routines against very large data sets;

 

Perform capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning in collaboration with business analysts and data and network architects;

 

Administer and monitor Hadoop cluster connectivity and security, maintain security according to best practices and company's standards;

 

Perform Hadoop clusters backup and recovery;

 

File system management and monitoring, Hadoop HDFS support and maintenance;

 

Manage and review Linux and Hadoop log files;

 

Collaborate with other teams to install operating system and Hadoop updates, patches, version upgrades when required;

 

Team with the infrastructure, database, and business analytics teams to guarantee high data quality and availability and to troubleshoot Hadoop issues;

 

Point of Contact for Vendors escalations.

Required Qualifications end Experience:

 

Experience with enterprise level production administration;

 

Strong Experience with Hadoop ecosystem and related technologies Hive, HBase, Pig, Java etc.) required;

 

Skills in diagnosing and solving complex problems and providing detailed technical analysis;

 

General systems operational expertise, including understanding of systems' capacity, bottlenecks, memory, CPU, OS, storage, and networking;

 

Strong knowledge of networking protocols and components including TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, NTP, etc;

 

Configuration and operation experience in security features such as Kerberos, LDAP, Active Directory, etc;

 

Strong experience in UNIX/Linux systems administration, including troubleshooting and analyzing Linux and Linux resident application issues, command line editors, and scripting (shell, Python, Perl, etc.);

 

Good knowledge of open source Linux configuration management and deployment tools such as Puppet or Chef;

 

Linux automation experience, including automation using shell scripting to help scale operations;

 

Experience in designing and implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions;

 

Experience with a variety of file formats (XML, JSON, unstructured data, etc.);

 

Understanding of SQL in accessing and manipulating data.

 

Experience with full SDLC is a must
