Description:
Our Client is looking for a Sr. Database Developer to perform advanced technical work and provide supervision of the design, development, maintenance, documentation, support, and improvement of the organizations database architecture and applications in support of the corporate information systems.
Develop, assist in developing, or supervise the development of database applications including requirements, impact analysis, design, programming, documentation, testing, data conversion, and implementation. (Anticipated workload 35%)
Work with user departments to design and support new or modified database systems; interface effectively and cooperatively with computer system users to maintain efficient system utilization; monitor system utilization and recommend appropriate revisions to processes, procedures, and operations. (Anticipated workload 35%)
Supervise development projects; fill in for the Database Application Development Manager as needed; provide technical leadership and mentoring to help Developers improve their skills. (Anticipated workload 20%)
Review database systems to determine trends and make recommendations for software and procedural changes. (Anticipated workload 5%)
Provide on-call support for the database application systems. (Anticipated workload 5%)
Required Knowledge : Principles and techniques of the application development process; principles and techniques of system integration and software dependencies; working knowledge of various computer systems including the RS6000, AS400 and NT; thorough understanding of logical and physical database design concepts; practical experience with data transformation and extraction tools and programming languages including but not limited to Oracle PL/SQL, Microsoft T/SQL, VB Script and SQL Server Data Transformation Services; conceptual understanding of change management techniques; project management techniques; knowledge of or willingness to learn database design tools and additional extraction/transformation/loading tools; capabilities and limitations of computer systems.
Abilities Required: Develop or analyze informational requirements and identify problems; analyze data and develop logical solutions to problems; work independently while adhering to company policies and standards; effectively enforce company standards; provide direction to meet required project deadlines; interface effectively and cooperatively with system users and co-workers; provide leadership and direction to other Developers for projects as required; provide technical leadership and mentoring to help Developers improve their skills.
Experience and Education Required: Any experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience – Five or more years of experience in computer systems design and application development; some previous experience in leading projects;
Education - Completion of college level course work in computer science or closely related field.
