Job Description:

Client requires the services of a consultant to perform the Network Engineer job function. A total of three (3) Network Engineer positions are to be filled by consultants. The primary role is support of the network infrastructure and associated hardware. Key systems that comprise the MNR Corporate Data Network Environment include Revenue (Ticket Vending Machines), Kronos (Time Clocks) and Employee Information Content Distribution (Digital Media Players).

Candidates must be able to:

- Solve complex problems relating to network connectivity and performance.
- Display strong working knowledge of TCP/IP, SNMP and related WAN protocols.
- Troubleshoot data circuits, open trouble tickets and follow issue through to resolution.
- Configure and implement Layer 2/Layer 3 Switches and Routers.
- Have familiarity with both Cisco and Avaya Network equipment.
- Exhibit knowledge of protocol analysis tools and data packet inspection.
- Implement and support a multicast network with IP PIM Sparse.
- Support Quality of Service across the network.
- Work with rack mounted UPS technologies.
- Execute required lifting to install/replace network equipment.
- Travel within the Operating Region of the Railroad as required to support the network.
- Remain alert and safety conscious while working within the confines of a Railroad environment.
- Work various shifts and be on call to support a 24x7x365 network.
- Identify functions based on previous industry experience that can be improved by process development and implementation guidelines.

- Work independently and under pressure, as well as work in a team environment.
- Display ability to follow instructions/procedures.
- Present excellent communication skills and attentiveness to detail.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or four (4) years or more of related full-time, paid experience.  The candidate must have a strong work ethic coupled with a high initiative.  Desirable personality traits include organizational ability, responsibility and dedication.  Industry certification(s) in the networking realm are an advantage.
