Phone and In-person Position: Oracle DBA SME Duration: 6 Months Location: Chicago, Illinois Minimum Requirements: Skills: Highly skilled in Oracle database administration (SME level) Technically skilled in Linux In depth troubleshooting and problem resolution skills essential Ability to create and manage action plans to improve the database environment and resolve issues Ability to plan, manage and present on proof of concept analyses and upgrade/migrations projects Willingness to work under high pressure, participate in 24x7 and weekend cover, share knowledge and cover deployment & maintenance tasks Ability to work independently Ability to perform oracle database architecture Technically skilled in performing database performance turning and enhancement Excellent written and spoken English LOOKING for someone a little more senior Experience: Extensive database administration experience for Oracle database up to 11gR2 Experience on Oracle database 12c Strong experience in performance tuning Strong experience in design clustered environment on oracle RAC as architect Strong experience in backup and recovery strategy Experience of Dataguard, RAC, Oracle Enterprise Manager (10g and up), Oracle Grid Control Experience of OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and DSS (Decision Support Systems), Data Warehousing Knowledge of Exadata is desirable Knowledge of goldengate is desirable Financial experience a bonus Previous experience of stepping into a similar role Relevant Oracle certified  qualifications REQUIRED REGISTRATIONS: Needs to have good understanding of the regulatory framework in respective regions Needs to understand the regulations applicable to the performance of the role Needs to build a good working relationship with compliance and other control functions Role holder must have unquestioned fitness & propriety, integrity   Applicant must meet ALL of these requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES: Oracle SME in the global database administration team providing support for 200+ databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase) The SME will input into the Oracle elements of the database strategy, provide guidance on best practices and standards, participate in Proof of Concepts, mentor other Oracle DBAs and provide in depth troubleshooting and analysis skills for the team Responsibilities include ensuring the provision of Oracle DBA cover, workload management and analysis of production changes Responsibilities include hands on technical support for Oracle databases Coordinate and integrate with a global follow the sun support model Process orientated approach to database management (inc. change management, incident and problem management) Install, configure, manage and maintain multiple Oracle databases Perform operational procedures and support (including data modelling, replication, administration, maintenance, capacity planning, space management and recovery) Perform replication, RAC configuration, OEM configuration, performance tuning and optimization (query optimization, index tuning, caching and buffer tuning) Perform appropriate back up, restoration, patching and upgrades of databases (including DR) Understanding of the governance required to retain production availability (inc. checks, patching, capacity management, security) Perform database tuning and implement performance enhancements Be the primary Oracle database architect for Newedge Weekend and out of hours work will be required Responsibility for ensuring that you are fully aware of and adhere to internal Policies that relate to you, your business or other businesses for which you have any level of responsibility.  It is your responsibility to ensure compliance with operational risk requirements (e.g. Golden rules, security policies and regulatory requirements).  Responsibility for managing, controlling, preparing and escalating risk within the scope of your position.
