Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Managing the automation application infrastructure and related processes to all environments ranging from development to production.
This role plays a key part in release and deployment management.
- Account management, software/OS updates and patching, OS installations via the automation framework.
- Web Service application installation, configuration and maintenance (e.g. Subversion, Web Logic, Web Sphere, Tomcat, etc.…) via the automation framework.
- Server decommissioning activities via the automation framework..
- Responding to Service Desk incidents regarding end user problems associated with the systems.
- Assisting developers with isolation and resolution of application issues which are service, operating system or hardware based.
- Performance analysis and tuning, specifically in a Java, SAN, VMware environment.
- Automation of systems management tasks (e.g. Shell scripting and Puppet).
- System and application monitoring and alerting.
- Ensuring network and system security.
Qualifications:
Education, Skills and Competencies:
Experience should include but not limited to:
- BS in Computer Science (or equivalent), relevant professional certifications or proven equivalent work experience.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef or Cfengine is required.
- 5 - 8 years of recent, real-world experience using automation tools and working with Linux in a large, complex data center environment is required.
d. Programming/scripting experience (e.g. Java, Ruby, Python, Perl, Shell, etc…) required.
e. Excellent skills in systems automation, using programmatic techniques to manage hundreds of physical and virtual servers across multiple, geographically distributed data centers.
- Experienced working on and within a VMware's cloud environment.
- Experience with multiple distributions including Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu.
h. Experience building and maintaining an IaaS/PaaS solution supporting both the SDLC process and customer-facing applications, via tools such as OpenStack or VMware.
i. The ability to act as a technical leader both within the Technical Operations team and various stakeholders.
j. The ability to take business problems and translate them into technical needs
k. Strong judgment skills to evaluate pros and cons of potential solutions.
l. Excellent communication skills with the ability and experience to communicate complex subjects to a wide audience (from business users to technical staff)
m. The ability to act as a subject matter expert on in-depth questions about Linux (specifically CentOS/Red Hat) operating system performance, troubleshooting, and management.
n. A strong understanding of both the theory and application of foundational protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP.
o. Experience providing visibility to varied business elements into the health and performance of systems via monitoring/alerting, metric gathering and visualization tools.
p. Experience supporting modern Web infrastructure components such as Oracle Fusion/WebLogic and IBM WebSphere.
- Prior experience on projects with federal, state or local government is desirable, but not required.
- Prior experience with ITIL v3 is a plus.
