Need Senior Systems Administrator - SAN
Special Qualifications Note - Because this is a Senior Administrator position, the role will consist of both daily operational administration support as well as project related work to include: Documenting the technical
direction of the storage team by developing strategies, defining policies, selecting standards, and documenting procedures.
Qualifications:
#1 - Prior experience with developing operational SAN storage strategies and policies
#2 - 10 years in Information Technology with 6 years supporting an enterprise storage environment
#3 - 6 plus years working in enterprise storage including NAS and SAN systems
#4 - Working knowledge and application of backup concepts and practices including experience with backup rotation, retention, scheduling, and vaulting for offsite storage. Including working knowledge of database backups, full and incremental backup technologies and storage de-duplication Additional Qualifications – Excellent communication and customer service skills and availability to provide 24 x 7 on-call support as part of rotating team including nights, weekends, holidays
 
Job Summary:
The Storage Administrator will perform storage and backup administration in Windows / UNIX / Linux environments, filling storage requests, zoning SANs, performing storage migrations, setting up and maintaining replication partners, performing backups and recoveries, performing storage assessments, system design, performance analysis, capacity planning, and disaster recovery planning. The focus will be the support, maintenance, and administration of the entire enterprises storage and backup environment.
 
Job Functions:
Assists with the technical direction of the Storage team by developing strategies, defining policies, selecting standards, and documenting procedures
Participates as a member of a corporate-wide Storage team ensuring consistency in the application of management and administrative policies and procedures relative to storage and backup administration in a 24x7 enterprise model
Monitors and acts to ensure the delivery of user acceptable response times and the absence of business interruptions
Troubleshoot and resolve incidents with enterprise SAN, NAS, and backup systems quickly and completely
Perform day-to-day backup administration tasks, including but not limited to: monitoring of system health; performing backup and recovery operations; resolving underlying causes for missed and failed backups
Perform day-to-day storage administration tasks, including but not limited to: monitoring system health and performance; filling storage allocation/de-allocation requests; snapshot creation and cleanup; monitoring and resolving issues with replication; SAN zoning and masking
Perform or orchestrate data migrations between frames or between systems with other teams
Participate in the design and selection of SAN,NAS, backup and other data protection technologies
Work to define standards, guidelines, best practices and metrics around shared storage and backups
Disaster recovery planning and testing as required
Provide 24x7 on-call support as part of rotating team coverage
Perform Incident/Change Management
Configure and manage backup tape library units and disk based backup targets
Installing, upgrading, and patching of storage, SAN, NAS, and backup servers and clients
Manage daily backup status reports
Other duties as assigned
 
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (10 years in Information Technology with 6 years supporting an enterprise storage environment), a relevant advanced degree and/or appropriate professional certification preferred
6 plus years working in enterprise storage including NAS and SAN systems
Working knowledge and application of backup concepts and practices including experience with backup rotation, retention, scheduling, and vaulting for offsite storage. Including working knowledge of database backups, full and incremental backup technologies and storage de-duplication
4 or more years performing backup administration with a variety of related technology-tools
Enterprise level storage replication experience with 2 or more storage systems (SRDF preferred)
A demonstrated understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; knowledge of and experience with principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts
Ability to script in UNIX shell or PERL
Experience with Linux, Windows, Solaris, HP-UX operating systems
Experience with Hitachi HUS platform
Experience with NetApp
Demonstrated understanding of Data Domain or other deduplication technology
Experience with VMware virtualization technology
Strong Symantec OpsCenter administration experience, including the creation of customized reports
Strong understanding of internet protocols (e.g. HTTP, FTP, IMAP, POP, SMTP, DNS)
Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support as part of rotating team including nights, weekends, holidays
 
General Qualifications:
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse enterprise
Strong organizational skills with Exceptional attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
Adept at handling multiple assignments in a timely manner and meeting assigned deadlines
