Description:
The release manager serves as a liaison between varying business units to guarantee smooth and timely delivery of software products or updates. This role is the gatekeeper to all environments and applications and is responsible for executing all deployments to our customers' environments. This position is also responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the source control repositories. Currently this includes SVN and Mercurial. In addition, this role will develop, manage, and maintain the various codebases and document the baseline within the source control repository.
The candidate must be knowledgeable with contemporary build systems for Java. Working experience with Ant and Maven is required.
Responsibilities
Manages the release process end-to-end, from the planning of release content through to actual release deployment to production. Plans the deployment of software releases of products. Schedules reviews as necessary to ensure all stakeholders are aware of the impacts of each software release.Maintains the current version control systems. This includes user maintenance as well as establishing the appropriate folder structure and branches for releases. Creates and maintains version directories. Manages release branches. Validates deployment packages as necessary. Moves deployment packages between all environments. Coordinates and participates in regular post-implementation reviews and presents release metrics in order to assist with the evaluation of release quality. Works with other technical team members to resolve all release related issues.
Writes and maintains written procedures for release management. Works flexible hours to avoid impact to production systems.
Qualifications
* B.A./B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
* Minimum 2 years experience as Build Engineer or similar role
* Minimum 2 years of working in Java based environments
* Experience with source code management tools - Subversion, Mercurial
* Experience with various build and development support tools - Wiki, JIRA, Hudson
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills
* Experience debugging and troubleshooting during builds and deployments
* Ability to lead development of build best practices in complex environments
* Ability to work in cross-departmental teams and to interact effectively with other members of the organization
* Strong oral, written communications skills
* Good team player, able to drive resolution of technical issues
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED
* Web (Apache) and Java application (Tomcat, Jboss, etc) server expertise including installation, administration, configuration, and troubleshooting
* Network and connectivity troubleshooting skills
* Understanding of internet protocols such as HTTP, DNS, FTP, TCP, SSH, SSL, HTML, XML, JDBC, SNMP, etc, and how they work together
* Experience in at least two relevant scripting or programming languages (Ant, Shell, Maven, etc.)
