Description:

Under Supervision, this position has responsibility for maintaining and updating short circuit cases for the ASPEN OneLiner short circuit analysis software program. Updates will include topology (connectivity), relay data and power equipment data. This requires a good working knowledge of the ASPEN OneLiner program (or CAPE) and its functionality; OTHER CIRCUIT ANALYSIS SOFTWARE BACKGROUND WOULD BE CONSIDERED TOO.
 
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Perform calculations to develop and convert data for use in short circuit cases.
• Review and understand P&C designs for electrical substation projects.
• Interface with various company departments to support their needs regarding short circuit data and to exchange information needed for short circuit cases.
• Assist with performing short circuit fault studies.
• Perform comparative analyses to verify all company short circuit information is accurate, which will require working across company, interconnected utilities and within RTOs to follow the company defined processes to verify short circuit model information.
• Perform relay settings for existing and new station and line protection schemes, as assigned.
• Review and evaluate transmission planning proposals and model proposed changes in the short circuit cases.
• Ensure short circuit cases are compatible with NERC P&C requirements and maintain a good understanding of NERC reliability standards that apply to protection system short circuit cases.
• Assist with resolutions to protection and control problems involving misoperations of protective equipment.
• Assist with design of system-wide protection standards for short circuit cases and associated data.
• Perform studies on inadequate protection for your assigned region.
• Applies principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals.
• Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.
• May report to an executive or a manager.
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

REQUIREMENT:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area, plus 2 or more years of utility-level electric system protection experience is required.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
• [Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) independently evaluated and found to be equivalent to an engineering degree awarded by a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S.]
