The Principal Software Engineer, acting as the Software Security Program's Software Security Architect, will work within software engineering organizations to: translate and define security requirements, establish practices for building secure applications; and oversee the adoption of security practices. This position requires: expertise in defining, managing and executing on a software engineering security practice; architectural skills; development skills; expertise with major software infrastructures (J2EE, .NET, Oracle) and architectures (Web, SOA);  an ability to build rapport and credibility with management and software development teams; and the ability to document solutions and architectures. Successful candidates must be action oriented self starters, capable of solving complex technical problems both independently and in a team environment. Candidates must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and executive level audiences.

 

The Principal Software Engineer must be able to work with application technical leads to understand an application's security requirements and the application(s) and data being secured, as well as be able to understand the interrelationships of networks, systems, applications, and policy and the roles that each play in an overall security architecture to ensure that proper security is being built in to all components of the application(s).

 

Further, the Principal Software Engineer will also serve as a software security thought leader for the College Board, interfacing with senior technologists and mentoring the software development staff. The Principal Software Engineer will assist with and provide advice on approaches for all development projects and actively participate in solution development, when appropriate.

 

 

Expert in the methodologies for building security in during the application development cycle: application security planning; threat modeling; misuse/abuse cases; static code analysis tools; penetration testing Expert in security architectures and design principles.

.     Must have a broad view of security including understanding of: authentication/authorization standards and frameworks; data security mechanisms; fine-grained authorization/entitlements frameworks and standards; software architectural practices to minimize security vulnerabilities; coding practices to prevent exploits.

.     Clear communication skills including the ability to assemble and give security practice related presentations to both technical staff and management.

.     Must have strong knowledge in one or more of the following: HTML, JavaScript, DOM, AJAX, CSS/CSS2, XML, XHTML, DHTML

.     Must have a deep knowledge of J2EE and/or .NET technologies

.     Knowledge of OWASP testing guidelines and PCI Data Security Standards

.     Experience with network analysis tools

.     Experience with web app scanners

.     Experience with static analysis tools

.     Experience with database scanner tools

.     Experience in performing code and design reviews

.     Experience in parameter manipulation and fuzzing techniques

.     Intimate knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP/S and other protocols
