UNIX Systems Programmer
San Antonio, TX

Job Responsibility :
Demonstrated ability to coordinate, plan, and manage both short term and long term projects and work in a multi-discipline team environment.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and analyze system related issues and recommend and implement appropriate solutions.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and/or complex projects.
Advanced knowledge of the appropriate operating systems and system software. Thorough knowledge of system programming languages and scripts. General knowledge of networking applications.
Thorough knowledge of software installation methods and techniques. Acquires and effectively demonstrates any additional knowledge and skill requirements as requested.
Expectations:
Maintains and consistently demonstrates a general knowledge of company guidelines, processes, practices and procedures.
Responsible for system planning and maintenance (e.g. operating system installation, disk partitioning, file system layout, peripheral set-up, and networking set-up). Researches, evaluates, installs, and supports system management tools for operating systems.
Develops procedures and provides training support to Systems Programmers and operations staff.
Defines, establishes and integrates new applications into our standard configuration. Analyzes, tests, evaluates and recommends new software and hardware.
Monitors and troubleshoots system software, hardware, and overall system performance. Implements solutions to complex system problems.
Monitors system capacity to ensure resources are available. Supports connectivity among systems.
Provides production support. Provides clients with technical expertise and support concerning both development and production systems.
Meets with clients and CDS staff to identify functional requirements of proposed technical solutions.
Meets with vendors to resolve system hardware and software issues and to evaluate new products. Plans, documents, and implements system disaster backup and recovery.
Provides leadership by:
- Defining project scope and direction
- Assigning tasks
- Helping team members with technical issues
- Monitoring progress
- Providing status and management reports Provides advanced technical expertise to project team members.
- Reviews application performance issues Constructively contributes in team and department meetings and training opportunities. Recommends or develops agenda items/topics and leads meetings or parts of meetings. Performs other work as required or requested as well as additional assignments.
